Make an Impact with Your Headshot Photography
What sways you to select a new profile picture on social media? Most of the time, it’s a high quality photograph that’s better than your average photo. We choose images that tell a story about who we are and entices people to hit like or follow…and it’s exactly the same when selecting your headshot photography.
What Is A Headshot?
A headshot is a modern portrait where the focus is on the person. It’s a term usually applied to a professional image that summarizes our business and personality. Think of it like a first audition: potential clients will see your photo and decide whether to call you up for an audition or not.
The Benefits of Hiring A Professional Headshot Photographer:
For those wondering whether you should call your best friend and ask them to take your headshot, remember that a lot of elements go into creating the perfect headshot.
They require good lighting and the right distance and angle; they can be found in colour or in black and white and the pose has to be just perfect! In other words, your headshot photograph is much like a second logo and requires careful consideration and expertise. It can be the difference between a client meeting and an overlooked portfolio.
There are many different types of professional headshots, from actors to corporate to social media influencers. I personally love taking people’s headshots because it gives me the opportunity to help you create or elevate your professional persona. Revealing my headshot photography to my clients is always fulfilling, because it not only captures your everyday personality, but also your aspirations for the business you want to be and the brand you want to become. The power of an image never ceases to amaze and inspire me.
Here’s how I help capture your brand in a single photo:
Whether you’re an entrepreneur or a business owner looking for headshots for your entire team… I always ensure your headshots tell a story and show your personality.
Every photo is different depending on your line of work; for example, a tech professional may have a photo with a slight smile without his/her teeth, dressed in a suit with their hands clasped together in front of their body. Whereas a naturopath may want a photo outside, using natural lighting and the mountains as a backdrop (with a smile full of teeth!). A full consultation discussing your goals will take place before we decide what elements will be incorporated into your headshot.
Regardless of the personality of your brand, my main priority is to make sure your headshot photography looks professional and represents your brand in an authoritative way. It has to be high-resolution, up-to-date (see more info on this below) and needs to make your profile shine. If you are a little camera shy, it’s also great to have a professional on hand to make you feel at ease and look natural.
- Up to Date
As mentioned above, staying up to date is important. However I would like to elaborate on this point a little further…because it’s no good meeting someone online and building an image of who they are, to meet them in person and find someone completely different (think of it like online dating!). You are a representation of your brand, and both are constantly evolving, therefore we suggest having your headshot updated every 3-5 years.
- Stand out
Like any professional photographer, we want our images to stand out and that’s what I love to help people achieve with their business. In the noisy word of social media and digital connection, it can be hard to differentiate yourself from your competitors and inspire a potential client to take time out of their busy day to stop on your page and read what you or your company have to say. A great headshot helps stop traffic and grab attention by creating the question: who is this person? The goal is to leave people wanting to find out more.
- Feel good
Above all else, I love making my clients feel good! When they are happy with how they look and have an image that helps them present themselves to the world, I have achieved my ultimate goal.
I hope that’s helped share some information about your headshot photography. If you’d like to inquire about a professional headshot image to elevate your brand, let’s start a conversation to discuss how I can help!
